Access To Allied Pyschological Services

The Access to Allied Psychological Services (ATAPS) initiative is currently funded through the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing from July 2006 - June 2009) provides access by GPs to the MBGPN's contracted psychologists to ensure appropriate mental health care services are available to patients at little or no cost to the patient.

The MBGPN's ATAPS program provides services to patients with the following conditions:

  ⇒  Alcohol use disorders   ⇒  Drug use disorders
  ⇒  Phobic disorders   ⇒  Depression
  ⇒  Generalised anxiety   ⇒  Panic disorder
  ⇒  Conduct disorder   ⇒  Mixed anxiety and depression
  ⇒  Bereavement disorders   ⇒  Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

The criteria for eligibility to these services are:

1. Commonwealth registered benefit holders - patients requiring a Mental Health Plan
2. ATSI patients who require a Mental Health Plan
3. Patients who do not meet the above criteria but are affected by a drug and alcohol condition co-morbid with a mental condition requiring

Gap payments are required from the patient to the psychologist for Items 1 and 3.

Focused Psychological Strategies:

Delivery by GPs of focused psychological strategies which are specific mental health care treatment strategies derived from evidence based psychological therapies is included withhin the Better Outcomes in Mental Health Care (BOiMHC) program.

Focused psychological strategies can be provided by GPs registered with Medicare Australia as having completed Level 1 and Level 2 training and working from an accredited practice or alternately through Access to Allied Psychological Services (ATAPS).
