Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Services (ATODS)

The Northside Health Service District – Northern Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs Service serves Kilcoy Shire, Caboolture Shire and Redcliffe City - a total population of approximately 188,000. Staff are located at Caboolture Community Health Centre and Redcliffe Health Campus. Outreach services are provided to Kilcoy.

The service aims to minimise the harm associated with the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs by fulfilling three functions - health education / health promotion / illness prevention, consultancy and client services.

Problematic alcohol, tobacco or other drug use is seen by the team to be related to physical, psychological, social or legal difficulties experienced.

Consultancy is a role embraced by the service, with the team enjoying a close relationship with detoxification facilities, the medical profession and Mental Health Services, by offering advice, information, education and resources.

The service adopts a holistic approach to client care and utilises a biological / psychological / sociological model in assessment.

Counselling is offered to people concerned about their own or someone else’s alcohol, tobacco or other drug use.

Needle and Syringe Programs are available at Redcliffe Health Campus, Caboolture Community Health Centre and Kilcoy Hospital.

Client empowerment is seen as an integral part of the service’s philosophy.  Self referral is preferred, however referrals may be taken after consultation from service providers such as GPs and Mental Health. Age is no barrier to accessing the service. The service is funded by Queensland Health and is free.
