Moreton Bay General Practice Network Leadership/Mentoring Project
Moreton Bay General Practice Network Leadership/Mentoring Project
The key activities undertaken by the project were:
- Identify through a survey the current level of Palliative Care expertise amongst all GPs within practices in the Division including:
- Which GPs currently have palliative care patients
- Which GPs are aware of services available for palliative care patients
- What services specific GPs are prepared to provide to assist with palliative care, for example home visits
- Identifying issues relating to Palliative Care
- Which GPs are willing to attend training if QA&CPD points are offered
- Which GPs are willing to be part of a support group
- Identified, assessed and promoted educators and placement programs such as Program of Experience in the Palliative Approach (PEPA)
- Developed partnerships with palliative care providers
- Established leaders and mentors in the GP community to promote the education resources developed by the project. This included recruiting a GP (who responded favourably to the initial survey) to undertake a placement program and summarised the palliative care skills they attained on the Division website (which GPs are used to accessing). This also involved promotion of the mentor and leadership program through the Division newsletter, which is distributed to all GPs in the Division.
