ePrescribing

Not being able to view timely and complete medication information presents a risk to patient safety. The Moreton Bay GP Network is planing trials of ePrescribing to assess the benefits to Patients, Specialists, GPs, Pharmacists and Aged Care workers in an Aged Care setting.

The following benefits have been identified through initial discussions with stakeholders. Further planning will develop the list of benefits to be measured during the Pilot. Benefits measurement will inform the process of improving the solutions offered so continued use of E-Prescribing after the Pilot will better deliver the intended benefits.

Patient Benefits:

  • Improved safety

Provider Benefits (Aged Care, Pharmacy and GP):

  • Reduction in telephoned medication orders from GP to the Aged Care Facility
  • Improved timeliness of availability of clinical notes and medication information
  • Increased efficiency managing prescription and dispensing processes
  • Increased patient safety as electronic alerts can highlight when medication has not been dispensed
